WCPS compete in BB cross country

Tonight, the Birmingham Boys Brigade cross country competition was held in Sutton Park. You may recognise the boys in the photograph as members of Whitehouse Common, but they are also members of the 4th Sutton Coldfield Boys Brigade.

Everyone of them represented themselves, their Brigade and their school brilliantly and, with their help, 4th Sutton Coldfield won the shield. Ethan and William also won medals for their individual placings.

So well done to Luke, John, Jack, Matthew, Callum, Theo (who  missed the photograph unfortunately) and William (Y4), Ethan (Y2) and Lewis, Cameron (Y6) and Joe (who would be in our Y6 if he hadn't moved out of the area) for all their efforts.

Wedding Congratulations!

Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Goode and Mr and Mrs Cleaver who got married on Sunday 29th May. Both the brides looked beautiful.

Visitors from India

indian_visitorsOn Wednesday 18th May, Whitehouse Common Primary School were thrilled to welcome visiting Headteachers from India.  The visit was a great success and the celebrations were enjoyed by all.

The children greeted the visitors by lining the path and waving UK and Indian flags that they had made.  Children then performed an exciting programme of song and dance, which consisted of a variety of dances from India and the UK.  Reception performed a traditional folk dance, Year One impressed us all with a Bolllwood style performance, Year Four tackled an impressive Bhangra routine and Year Six had our toes tapping with their Rock n’ Roll moves.  The visitors were clearly impressed with the children’s behaviour and standards across the whole of our school and were ‘truly touched’ by the efforts of the children and the welcome they received.

picture_198The visit was a continuation of our Global Links Partnership which Mrs Allen and another local Headteacher visited the Punjab in October last year to initiate links with ten schools in Birmingham.  The aim of the partnership is that the schools learn about each other and our cultures and more importantly learn together about issues that affect all of us all.  Children in our link school and here in Whitehouse Common have chosen to develop their knowledge of sustainability and looking after the world we live in.  The children discussed what they wanted to gain from this opportunity and have enjoyed writing and receiving letters from the Punjab schools, sharing their knowledge and life experiences.

During their week long stay in Birmingham, the visitors went to all ten schools involved in the partnership and also visited local places of interest, including, Lichfield Cathedral, the Bull Ring and Birmingham Metropolitan College.  The visit culminated in lunch with the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress in Birmingham Town Hall.

It is clear to see that our global links are now well established and we look forward to continuing to work with our link school in India well into the future.

Bye bye - Adiós - Adeu

Señora Dixon, Señorita Harper and Señora Stevens had a lovely last evening in Barcelona, sharing dinner with their friends, old and new.

They are sad to be leaving Barcelona but look forward to meeting everyone again in June when the Barcelona 'crowd' come to Birmingham.

Now Señora Dixon, Señorita Harper and Señora Stevens have to pack as they have to be up and out of their accommodation by 6am to catch their flight at 8am.

So, as that's only 5 and a bit hours from now, they're off to bed and apologise for the short entry in their diary.

More tomorrow.

Tuesday at Els Pins

Señorita Harper, Señora Dixon and Señora Stevens have spent a wonderful morning with everyone at Els Pins.

Skyping Nursery, Year 5, Year 6 and Year 4 was great fun and the children from Els Pins really enjoyed seeing Whitehouse Common pupils and asking them qustions.

Year 5 at Els Pins had a good look at the work that Year 6 had done, and answered questions from 5RD. All the teachers were very very impressed by the way the class wrote in English.

Señorita Harper, Señora Dixon and Señora Stevens have just had lunch, had a quick peek at the sleeping little ones and are getting ready to leave.

Except they really don't want to leave!

However, there are still adventures to come and they need to come back to share all the wonderful experiences with everyone at WCPS.

Tuesday in Barcelona

Today's plans are as follows:

9.00 visit Els Pins where we'll see Mar teaching and Skype with Year 5 and Year4 at WCPS.

13.30 lunch at Els Pins

15.30 visit to Camp d'aprenentage near Parc Güell

16.30 Parc Güell (Señorita Harper, Señora Dixon and Señora Stevens are all looking forward to this greatly!)

about 19.00 La Pedrera house visit

21.00 farewell dinner

At some point we also need to uy some presents and work out how we're going to get all our things - plus the books ans resources we've bought! - back into our suitcases and home!

Monday - el lunes - el dilluns

It's actually Tuesday in Spain as this is being written as there has not been a moment all day to post to the website!

Señorita Harper, Señora Dixon and Señora Stevens started the day with a tour of the Universitat de Barcelona and then moved on to the Parlament de Catalunya. Both buildings are beautiful and hearing about the history of them was fascinating. They enjoyed the park too as they walked through it. Most of all this morning though they enjoyed meeting (and remeeting for Señora Stevens) Ana and Miquel from the Consorci, Isabel and Carme from the Universitat, Alicia from CEIP Barrufet, John, Chris Veronica and Andrew from Dorrington and of course, Mar from Els Pins.

Lunch was eaten in a very posh restaurant and was delicious, then the travellers went with Mar to Els Pins. We had a group of 5 year olds all ready to SKype with Nursery but all sorts of technical issues meant that Nursery saw Señora Stevens and various children at Els pins but couldn't hear. All was not lost as the group waiting to SKype sang to Señorita Harper and Señora Dixon for a video for Nursery! Let's hope that Years 4 and 5 have more luck tomorrow!

Some 9 and 10 year olds showed the WCPS teachers around Els Pins and all three fell in love with a little boy called Oscar.

After school, our travellers went to explore Casa Batlló, one of the houses that Gaudí designed and decorated. What a stunning place! Tomorrow they'll continue on the Gaudí theme with a cvisit to Parc Guell and LA Pedrera.

Before a walk down the Ramblas, another visit to El Bosc de les Fades and a late dinner, Señorita Harper, Señora Dixon and Señora Stevens spent an hour or so sat on the floor of a FNAC looking for books to inspire and excite in our topics. The ones they chose certainly excited them (although getting the books home will be the next thing to consider!)

All in all a very exciting day - and the very old books and the Boqueria market haven't even been mentioned!

Last day tomorrow!
