1960's School Staff!

1960's Party Day!

1960sWe were transported back to the 1960's as the children and staff dressed in some fantastic costumes to remember our school being opened in 1961. Everyone had a great day taking part in a variety of exciting activities and received a commemorative pen and pencil to remember the occasion by. Thank you to all the parents for providing the children with such great outfits!

Sports Day

Sports_day_KS1_27Today we had our annual WHCP sports day! KS1/Reception completed six activities with their classes; the water race, the obstacle course, the relay race, the over and under race, the balance race and the egg and spoon race. The children competed in their houses and showed fantastic team spirit. After the KS1/Reception sports day, Nursery began their events. This included a relay, sack race and many more enjoyable activities. The children then had a lovely picnic lunch on the field with their families. The afternoon was time for KS2 to compete in a traditional sports day of track events, including the sack race, egg and spoon race, obstacle course, sprints and relays.

The children then patiently awaited the results of the day, totalled from nursery, KS1/reception and KS2 sports day as well as the interhouse phase competitions from Healthy Heroes Week. The house captains proudly collected the trophies for their houses. Elder came in fourth place, Hawthorn came in third place, Rowan in second place and Acer won! The totals for the house points for the year were also shared, 1st Hawthorn, 2nd Rowan, 3rd Acer, 4th Elder. Thank you to all of the parents/grandparents for supporting the children in their events today!

Abigail Bevington Award

On Monday 11th July we held our annual Abigail Bevington Awards. These are awarded to two children per class for achievement or outstanding personal qualities and are given in memory of Abigail who was a pupil here. The names of the children who have been presented with this award are engraved on a plaque which is situated at the entrance to Abigail's Garden.

Sainsbury's Vouchers

Sainsbury'sThank you for your fantastic contributions with the Active Kids vouchers from Sainsbury's, this year we collected over 20,000 vouchers! This has allowed us to order a range of equipment for our school. Some of the things we purchased are; netball posts, netball bibs, gym mats, rounders balls, footballs and a hockey set. Thank you again for all of the vouchers that made this possible.

50th Anniversary Tea Towels and Shopping Bags

50thWe are very pleased with the tea towels and bags which we had printed especially for the school's 50th Anniversary. There is a tea towel design for each year group in the school, including Nursery. Every child in the school completed a self-portrait, all of which have been printed onto their year group's tea towel, along with our special 50th Anniversary school logo. Mrs Juniper has already sold over half of these at the Summer Fayre and also with the help of Year 5 pupils at our 'Business Enterprise' shop in Sutton on Wednesday! She will be continuing to sell the tea towels, along with the canvas shopping bags, in the Library, before and after school, on Monday, Wednesday and Friday next week. Each item costs £3 and is a lovely memento of your children's time spent at Whitehouse Common School!

Four Oaks Cluster Choir

choirThe cluster choir performed in the semi-finals of the Music for Youth competition on 6th July at the Symphony Hall. Even though they will not find out the rests until the Autumn, there were many positive comments from the staff, parents and audience. Well done to all the children that took part, we are very proud of you! For more information on the Four Oaks Cluster Choir please [click here].
