On Friday 31st March, Mrs McIntosh and Mr Wheeler took a group of 14 pupils to Birmingham City University (BCU). The aim of the day was around raising aspirations and exploring the opportunities available in further education. BCU are one of our Learning Trust partners, who we collaborate closely with regarding the program for teacher training.
Three university Tutors and two Science Team members from the school of education provided children with a science lesson full of pops, fizzes and bangs. Following this, there was a creative art lesson where the children created 3D models of themselves as University students of the future. The chef in Baker café also took part in this day by providing the children with a special menu so that they could fully enjoy the experience of being a student in Baker Café at lunchtime.
Finally, the children then attended an exciting DT/Computing lesson where they used Lego and a computer programme together to create moving robotics.
The children thoroughly enjoyed the day. They were engaged, enthused and motivated throughout the whole day and began to see the possibilities of their future.
We were made extremely welcome. All the lecturers made a huge amount of effort to prepare exciting sessions for us. A great day had be all.
