Lo que hicimos en español (Verano 3 y 4)

Time for another update on some of the Spanish learning at Whitehouse Common over the last couple of weeks.

Year 4 came to the end of their unit on describing their faces during which they grappled with the whole idea that not only is word order different in Spanish with adjectives following nouns, but that adjectives also agree (that means they change their ending) with the nouns they describe in number and gender. Big concepts and tricky to grasp, but all Y4 adopted a Growth Mindset and used their BLP skills, persevering and continuing to revise their understanding until they were ready to show their new knowledge by designing and describing a monster face.

Year 3 last week asked and answered the question ¿Te gusta? using fruit and vegeatble vocabulary. They're such enthusiastic learners and mastered answering the question pretty quickly so we practiced asking too which is harder. Some of them were so enthusiastic they became the teacher and asked their classmates their opinions, demanding excellent pronunciation and correct use of me gusta (for singular items like el berro - cress) and me gustan (for plural items like los pepinos - cucumbers) There was a definite difference of opinion over las judías (green beans) with half saying Me gustan las judías and half saying No me gustan las judías but the verdict was virtually unanimous on las fresas!

verbs2017 Y6 were also giving opinions last week as part of their work on verb infinitives. Having survived their SATs they were in need of 'something completely different' so out came the ink pads and felt tips as they made finger print pictures, named the characters and wrote about what thye liked to do. As you can see, lots of imaginative use of fingerprints as well as some amusing sentences. They all seemed to enjoy the task, they all followed the instructions to keep one finger for each colour (Sra Stevens was adamant about not mixing up the colours!) and some even foudn great joy in being given a baby wipe to clean their fingers at the end!

News on Y5's lessons soon, as well as more news from Y3 who are making "sandwich' books next week.
