National eTwinning Awards for Whitehouse Common

Sra S QL optOver the 2018-19 academic year, Whitehouse Common was part of several eTwinning projects. You may have followed the progress of some of them on Twitter and the school newsletter.

At the start of term, we received news that two of them had been awarded a National Quality Label.

eTwinning Quality Labels are granted to teachers with excellent eTwinning projects. They indicate that the project has reached a certain national and European standard. This means that we are now eligible for a European Quality Label which is very prestigious and hard to achieve. This is very exciting news!

The projects awarded were Green Kids, a project in which chidlren looked at the ecological problems facing our world through the eyes of Green Kid, a character they created, and considered how they could combat and avoid damaging our planet, and Hands of the World, a collaboration originating from Sharon Tonner-Saunders of the University of Dundee that saw children around the world singing and signing in Makaton as well as learning a phrase of the week.

At the end of September, Señora Stevens attended the UK National eTwinning Conference and was overjoyed when Green Kids was Highly Commended in the National eTwinning Awards, and then ecstatic when Hands of the World won a National eTwinning Award. She came home with 4 plaques to be displayed at school so, along with the one for the International School Award which we will receive soon, that'll be FIVE plaques or certificates that we need to find space for! Well done to everyone involved in the projects, especially last year's 5MM for their singing and signing and 4CC for their 'phrase of the week' work for Hands of the World, and 5AG who illustrated and write many of the collaborative stories for Green Kids. However, the awards are for everyone as all classes contributed to one or other project through their PSHE, through assembly, or simply by being interested and encouraging us!

I'm very proud of you all. Señora Stevens
