Jack and the Beanstalk

User Rating:  / 0

This week we have been reading Jack and the Beanstalk. We acted out the story using props; firstly masks......

....and then we used instruments to make the different sounds of the characters.

We have also been doing lots of writing as we continue to learn new letters, the sounds that they make and their correct formation.

At the start of the week, Mrs Hawksworth came to talk to us about road safety. She then took us outside to practise. The children were very sensible; they listened for traffic as they looked left, right and left again and, when it was safe to do so, walked swiftly across the road.

Well done to all the children!

During our maths sessions we have been looking at 2D shapes, learning their names and counting the sides and corners. These children created pictures on the floor using large sponge shapes..........

...........and these children created shape pictures with paint.

How neat is this little girls tracing of shapes, fantastic pencil control!

This week we have been looking at the story of 'The Hungry Caterpillar’ and during our circle time we talked about foods that were healthy and foods that are very tasty but to be healthy we should only eat them in moderation. We enjoyed making some tasty fruit kebabs which included; strawberries, pineapple and mango. One child even said “That pineapple was the best thing I have ever eaten in my whole life”.

We had a super treat on Tuesday as we went to watch the Year 6 production of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.” It was a fantastic show and we all really enjoyed it!

We are looking forward to Sports Day on Thursday and hope that it can go ahead. Please come along and support us and keep your fingers crossed for good weather!

This week Reception have been very busy bees. We have written super fact files about bees and found out lots of new information about them.We have even retold a story about a bee called Buzzy and have written some super sentences in our books using time words.

There has been a shop full of exciting things to buy in our classroom this week and we have had to be very clever counting out the correct money to buy an item, such as a car, teddy, a new book etc.Even though this was tricky at first we are all working really hard to check the value of each coin.

Our clay minibeats are coming along nicely now and the children have worked really hard to paint them carefully. We have some super snails, scary spiders, slimy slugs and beautiful butterflies.

We are on a mission to make lots of money in Reception for our Buisness Enterprise Week, We are decorating and painting beautiful patterns on boring plant pots so make sure you look lout for them!

We have had a super start back to school this term. On Monday, we started off the day tasting a range of Indian foods, such as naan bread, samosas, pakoras and onion bajis. The teachers were suprised at how much we tried! In the afternoon we enjoyed an assembly with our visitors from India.

On Tuesday we carried on the fun, we went on a minibeast hunt around our school. We found all sorts of creatures such as, woodlice, beetles, ants, centipedes and spiders! You should see our minibeast creations in school!

We are looking forward to our school trip on Thursday at conkers and hope the weather is kind to us! We apologise in advance for muddy clothes and shoes.

Growing together

This week in Reception, we have really enjoyed going outside and planting cress seeds. We were a little bit shocked to learn that we were going to be planting our seeds in cotton wool and not soil so we are waiting to see if they will grow!

We also had a fantastic time going around our school field on a leaf hunt, we were really good at observing the shape and size of the leaves.

In Maths, we have been using our outdoor area to buy items in a shop using the correct coins.

We are really proud of the children in their swimming lessons, they are all very brave and very confident.

Thanks for your continued support

Living or Non-Living?

User Rating:  / 0

This week in Reception we have had lots of fun learning about living and non-living things. We had a fantastic time outside using leaves, sticks, pebbles etc to produce artwork in the in the style of Andy Goldsworthy. We are very creative!

In Maths, we have been sharing animals equally and have even learnt a new mathematical word ‘division’ which we have been using in our maths lessons. The teachers have also been very impressed with our doubling this week.

Once again we have been very impressed with their reading and phonic knowledge and are very proud of their progress.

The children were fantastic in swimming last week and were all very brave and extremely well behaved. We are looking forward to seeing them continue to gain their confidence and swimming ability.

Please can we take this opportunity to remind you that one week there will be homework provided in your child’s book and the following week will be ‘Moodle’ homework which we will have shown the children beforehand in class. Please note there are the same expectations for completing ‘Moodle’ homework as for completing homework in their books. Thank you to the 12 children that completed the ‘Moodle’ homework last week.

Midnight Superhero

This week in Reception we have been helping Elliot save the world! We were able to answer lots of questions about the story and some of us even went outside to roleplay the story in our super outdoor area.

In Numeracy, we have enjoyed learning about 2D and 3D shapes and especially enjoyed being out on the field using our problem solving skills in groups to make a range of shapes with our bodies, this proved trickier than we first thought. We have been painting shapes outside, building superhero towns/rockets using 3D shapes and fishing out shapes and describing them to our partner.

The children have once again worked really hard this term towards their targets, please could you acknowledge your child's achievements by signing them in the planner.

We would like to say thank you for your continued support with the new start of the day routine.

Many Thanks
