It has been a pleasure to teach your children over the past year (two years for 1EE!) and we wish them all the best for Year 2.

Year 1 have enjoyed a trip to Heart Country Park and Beach today as part of our Seaside topic work. Luckily, the weather was kind to us and we had a fantastic time. We went paddling in the sea, built sandcastles with our buckets, dug holes with our spades, ate our picnic on the beach and had ice-lollies. We spotted features of the seaside such as a lighthouse, a pier and a Punch and Judy stand. We got very sandy but all had a great day!!

The rest of the day was allocated to a variety of Queen related activities including a street party style picnic, crazy golf, paired reading with older children and building a huge Union Jack made from natural resources sourced from the junior field.

Year 1 have been working hard this week to create beautiful dinosaur themed ceramic tiles. All the children made their own tile and painted it with an appropriate background. Some of the children painted beautiful sunsets for their background while others chose a more traditional African landscape. The children have now painted and attached dinosaurs to their landscape and the children's finished tiles look great. look out for them on display soon!Isabel

dinosaur_report_2dinosaur_reportYear 1 have been working hard on their dinosaur reports in Literacy and they are now complete! We researched information in non-fiction books and on internet websites. We looked at the features of non-chronological reports and sorted our own research information into categories. We included a bold title, an introduction, subheadings, questions, pictures, captions and labels on our own reports. They look fantastic!! Take a look...

Year 1 were reminded of the importance of the Green Cross Code this week with a visit from staff at the Pedestrian training centre. The children practised crossing the road safely outside the school, learned how to find safe places to cross a road, practised using pelican crossings and even got to dress up like crossing patrol officers!

Animal man visit!!!

What a treat! Year 1 really enjoyed meeting a few of The Animal Man’s friends today. We meet a hungry giant lizard, fluffy the Tarantula and a spotted owl who liked the look of our new playground - or did he spot something moving in the bushes? A few lucky (or not) children were licked and tickled by these fabulous creatures, whilst The Animal Man explained some interesting facts. What a fun way to learn!

Phew!! What a busy few weeks!

Year 1 have had a very busy finish to the Spring term. We have had a great time completing our 'Spring' topic and made Easter Simnel cakes and woven baskets. Some of us enjoyed another visit to Bridge school to make Easter Bonnets with our new friends and of course we all enjoyed the Easter Bonnet parade at school. During Healthy Heroes week we were put through our paces by Daniel Berry who taught the children to be 'Little Soldiers'. The children were taught to sprint train, punch and shout really loudly!

To top off our busy Half term 1EE were thrilled to find out they had won the FKS/KS1 Scoot it/ Bike it competition for the class with the most journeys to school. The class has won a special teddy mascot (now named Scooty) and each child received a slap band for their efforts. Well done 1EE!
