Our topic this term is ‘Seasonal Changes’. We enjoyed going on a walk around our school to look for signs of autumn. We even had a visit to the school pond to see what we could find. We will visit the pond throughout the year to track changes through seasons.

Oh I do like to be beside the seaside!

User Rating:  / 1

This week we have been learning about seaside’s in the past. We enjoyed watching Magic Grandad go back in time to the seaside and we learnt lots of interesting facts. We didn’t know that the poor could not afford a bathing suit so they could only paddle and that people went to the seaside once a year as a treat. We also found out that you would get changed in a bathing machine and that the pier was an exciting place to be as there were a range of games such as hoopla, roll a penny and Punch and Judy shows.

The Tunnel!

User Rating:  / 0

This week we have been reading the story of ‘The Tunnel’ by Anthony Browne. We have planned our own adventure story about what we might find and see when our characters enter the tunnel. It has been really fun to use our imagination and invent fantasy worlds and characters of our own.

We hope you all have a lovely half term holiday.

Measuring Dinosaurs

User Rating:  / 1

We hope everyone had a lovely Bank Holiday Monday and made the most of the extra day off!

This week we have been using rulers to measure dinosaur footprints. We are looking forward to measuring the real size of dinosaurs features on the field later on in our topic.

We have also made predictions about weight and then used the scales to see if we were correct.

In literacy we have been focussing on using adverbs and identifying pronouns.

How many pronouns can you spot in this paragraph?

The little girl was very excited because she was having a party to celebrate her birthday. Her dad had bought her a chocolate birthday cake as he knew that she would like it. He hoped that all the children would enjoy themselves.

Jurassic Scenes

User Rating:  / 1

In our Topic lesson this week Year 1 have been using the technique of shape blocking to draw a Stegosaurus. We looked at each of the dinosaurs features and decided which shape would best suit that part. After we had drawn the outline of the dinosaur using shapes we began to add more detail. We think this is a really useful skill to learn.

We also created our own underwater Jurassic scenes using evidence from the past to help us. We looked at the fossils Mary Anning found and imagined what the sea would have looked like with the prehistoric creatures in. We talked about how important Mary Anning was and how fossils are created. jur2blog Jur
