What an exciting week for Year 6! 6LC have moved to their new room at the front of the Oaks building. We are very pleased to be near the main building again and look forward to all the fun we will have in our new classroom.

The children have done really well in their assessments this week, we’re very pleased with all their hard work in the last seven weeks (which have flown by!) We hope you have a lovely half term holiday, see you in November. moving

Year 6 Assembly Week

User Rating:  / 1

Preparations for Friday’s assemblies have been taking place this week. The children are very excited to share their presentations with parents and recount their favourite memories. 6LC’s assembly is at 9.15am and 6HJ’s is at 2.45pm.

The children have been busy mathematicians this week. We have been working to ensure we know our times tables as well as securing written methods for more complex multiplications. The children have also been investigating number patterns and sequences and discussing their findings.

Thank you for the reply slips regarding our Curriculum Workshop. This is taking place on Tuesday 13th October at 2.30pm in the Oaks hall should you wish to attend.

Spooky Literacy in Year 6…..

User Rating:  / 0

We have begun an exciting new unit in Literacy centred around the text ‘Room 13’ by Robert Swindells. The children have been researching different aspects of the book and making some predictions based on inferred and deduced information. We can’t wait to read it!

New maths groups have started really well this week. The children have been exploring place value and securing their calculation knowledge. Both classes have also been busy preparing for their Class Assemblies which will take place next Friday 9th October; 6LC in the morning and 6HJ in the afternoon. We really hope you can come to see their special memories of Howtown.

We are very proud of how the children represented themselves and our school while we were away. We hope their washing wasn't too awful at the weekend!

All about biographies (and smarties!)

User Rating:  / 0

We’ve been looking at biographical and autobiographical writing this week culminating in some fabulous writing on Friday. It’s been very interesting to read the autobiographies of our Year 6 children; we’ve found out some interesting facts about them.

During maths work, we have been collecting, presenting and interpreting a data in a range of ways. We used tubes of Smarties and investigated different ways we could show the colour data. We had some excellent graphs, tally charts as well as representations of ratio and proportion as fraction and decimals. Well done Year 6!

The staff are very excited for Howtown next week, not long now! Have a restful weekend ready for an action packed week.

Welcome to Year 6!

We are so thrilled to see all of you back and raring to go! What a fantastic first week we have had studying Japan. The children have become Origami masters making frogs and whales out of coloured paper. In addition, we have been studying the work of Katsushika Hokusai whose print ‘The Great Wave off Kanagawa’ has inspired some superb artwork across a range of media.

To help learn more about the country, we have been finding geographical facts about Japan using atlases and even tasting some Japanese delicacies including sushi and green tea! We were really impressed by the excellent work produced this week and how enthusiastic each class member was. Well done Year 6.

We are hard at work rehearsing for Annie and things are going well.  Miss Harper has been great and has been helping us to learn our lines, songs and dances.  If you have not learnt all of your lines yet get practicing because we will be going script free very soon.  You can also find many of the songs (with lyrics to sing along to) by following the link below:

Keeping safe at Safeside

User Rating:  / 1

Last Friday year 6 went to Safeside on a safety awareness trip.

safeside

Whilst there we learnt all about how to keep ourselves safe and dangers around us.  The guides were hugely impressed by the safety knowledge of all of the children and commented on how unusual it is to meet children who are so well informed!  Well done year 6 and make sure that you apply all of your safety knowledge to keep yourselves safe.

Health Week and My Money Week

Following the half term holiday, we have come back to school and found ourselves in the middle of two special themed weeks.  Last week was health week and we took part in all sorts of fun activities including: mixing fruit cocktails; daily wake up, shake up sessions, tennis coaching, bikeability and lots more ...  It was a great week and enjoyed by all!

Be active

This week is My Money Week and we are taking part in all sorts of money themed activities including sketching, writing and maths.  We will also be pitching to the dragons in Dragon's Den and making our business enterprise products.

Finally, to finish our week off, we will be visiting SafeSide on Friday.  Don't forget your packed lunch!
