WSAS Year 5 and 6 Hockey

A huge well done to all the participants in last week's hockey tournament. You all played brilliantly and represented our school fantastically well.

After some tough games, Whitehouse Common finished second after reaching the final and losing out to Boldmere. We are very proud of you children, well done!

Year Five Football

Well done to the Year Five boys for their efforts in the WSAS football festival yesterday. After just missing the worst of the rain, the matches kicked off against over 20 schools from the Sutton Coldfield/Erdington leagues. In highly competitive  games and on a fast playing pitch, the boys performed very well and were unlucky not to proceed through to the next round of the competition.

Things are looking promising for the Year Six team next year.

Cross Country Continues

Well done to all the boys and girls who represented Whitehouse Common in the WSAS cross country race yesterday after school. All the children did very well and made their parents' and school proud.

In all, over 200 children competed representing over 15 schools. The final championship race and awards take place next week at Streetly Gate in Sutton Park.

Birmingham Hockey Champions!

Whitehouse Common took part in the Birmingham School's Winter Games today - representing Sutton Coldfield for hockey.

We won!

Well done to Sam, Matthew, Libby, Charlotte, Louey, Sam and Ben.

The team won every game (4-1, 6-0, 2-1, 4-2, 3-0, 3-0). We are extremely proud of them. Miss Maltby took the children to the event and was influential in supporting them whilst they were there.

Hockey Birmingham

We gained acess to the competition (Level 3) from our success at winning the Sutton Coldfield competition (Level 2) back in the Autumn term. All the children during Year Five access a Level 1 tournament in school with the support from Bishop Veseys' PE teachers. From this teaching a team is selected to represent the school.

The next Level 3 competition will be held in the Summer Term (We won last year in the rounders and came third in rugby). We will be aiming to get through in the cricket and rounders Sutton competitions (Level 2), so watch this space.

Wow! Whitehouse Common Primary School are extremely proud to have been awarded the Sutton Coldfield Sports Awards 2015 - Aspire Trophy - Primary School of the Year. The prestigious event recognizes and celebrates the sporting achievements of schools and clubs from across the local area.

To be nominated for the award the school needed to show that gives its’ pupils a wide range of activities to participate in, within a high quality physical education programme. We needed to prove we that engage our pupils in a variety of extra-curricular sport. (The school should show commitment to School-Club links). Children are able to access high quality competitive opportunities at all levels of competition (Level 1 – Intra school, Level 2 – Inter school). WHC shows a commitment to engaging the least active students in sport and physical activity and ensures that KS1 students have high quality PE lessons to ensure they are physically literate by seven years old.

Mr Melville attended the awards ceremony last Friday evening at Sutton Town Hall. Look out for us in the Sutton Coldfield Observer for more details about the event and the winners of the other categories.
