History

History at Whitehouse Common is the study of the people, places, and events in the past. It helps pupils to make sense of the world in which they live by understanding how the past and has influenced the present.

A skills-based curriculum is encouraged to develop the children’s knowledge and understanding of History. Our children are enthusiastic historians who learn through primary and secondary sources, high-quality artefacts, and educational visits to local historical sites.

We endeavour to enhance the Whitehouse Common curriculum by reflecting the diverse society in which we live, and we study the achievements of fascinating individuals such as Mary Anning, Lewis Latimer, Katherine Johnson, and Louis Armstrong.

Back to the 60s

In Year 2 we've been combining our History and our Music this week. We looked at the different styles and instruments, as well as using vocabulary well to describe each piece. Multiple musical notesMultiple musical notes#whcyear2#WHCHistory#WHCMusic

Researching Mary Anning

Year One have loved using secondary sources to find out more about Mary Anning. We used QR codes to direct us to websites, and we read books and fact files too. She was very impressive! BoneClosed book #WHCYear1 #WHCHistory #WHCComputing

Look Think Wonder

Year One have had a brilliant time being historians, looking at some genuine artefacts from the past. It was vey exciting and we had lots of curious questions. We used 'look, think, wonder' to help us hone our historical skills. Ideas to follow!

Map Work in Year 6

Excellent map use in Year 6 today. We really enjoyed the start of our World War II topic where we identified The Axis powers and The Allied powers
